Welcome to the website of Te Tara O Te Ika A Maui - The Coromandel Kahui Ako. It is a great privilege to have been appointed as the lead principal of our Kahui Ako, a collection of 9 Kura scattered throughout the Coromandel Peninsula. My appointment for 2 years from term 3 2020 offers the opportunity to build on the excellent work completed by Brendan Finn who has held the position for the last three years.

The Coromandel Kahui Ako is geographically spread over 150kms beginning at Whangamata Area School in the South and heading up the Peninsula to Colville in the north. Whilst our spread creates some challenges, it also gives us exciting opportunities for collaboration in innovative and unorthodox ways. We are driven by the fact that we are different from an average urban Kahui Ako, and we see challenge as opportunity to innovate and think outside the box.

Personally, I am now in my 4th year as principal of Whangamata Area School and I believe passionately in the positive role that schools can play in small communities. Please enjoy our website, and the many resources and communications that can be found here. Our Across School Teachers, Learning Support Team add content frequently and spending some time “mining the Kete” will lead you to some hidden treasure.
